Getting Started

FPUAnet Communications is the fiber internet service provided by the Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) β€” the same local utility that provides your electric, water, and gas service. We've been serving the Fort Pierce community since 1972.

Unlike national providers, FPUAnet is community-owned. Your money supports local infrastructure and neighbors β€” not a distant corporation's shareholders. Our support team is right here in Fort Pierce, available 24/7.

Yes β€” this is one of the most popular benefits of choosing FPUAnet. If you're already an FPUA customer for electric, water, wastewater, or gas service, you can add internet to your existing FPUA account.

Everything appears on one single bill β€” one account, one local utility, one payment.

No. The price you see is the price you pay. FPUAnet does not add equipment rental fees, administrative fees, broadcast surcharges, or government taxes on top of the advertised rate.

Our Broadband Facts labels β€” available on each plan page β€” disclose all charges upfront as required by the FCC.

Never. FPUAnet has no data caps on any plan β€” residential or business. Stream, game, work, and back up all month long without overage charges or throttling.

For comparison: Xfinity caps residential accounts at 1.2 TB/month before overage fees. With FPUAnet fiber, your data is truly unlimited.

Residential plans require a 12-month initial service term. After the term ends, service continues month-to-month. An early termination fee may apply if you cancel before the term ends.

Business Class internet plans require a 1- or 2-year service agreement. After the contract term ends, service continues month-to-month. An early termination fee may apply if you cancel before the term ends.

  • 100 Mbps ($45) β€” 1–2 people: browsing, email, social media, occasional streaming
  • 500 Mbps ($55) β€” 2–4 people: HD streaming on multiple screens, Zoom, remote school
  • 1 Gig ($65) β€” Most Popular β€” 5+ devices: 4K streaming, gaming, work from home, smart home
  • 2 Gig ($85) β€” Power users: heavy gaming, large downloads, multiple 4K streams at once
  • 5 Gig ($105) β€” Content creators, tech enthusiasts, no limits whatsoever
Because FPUAnet speeds are symmetrical (equal upload & download), even our 100 Mbps plan outperforms a cable plan rated at the same speed.

Technology & Speeds

Fiber-optic internet transmits data as pulses of light through glass cables rather than electrical signals through copper wire (used by cable and DSL). The advantages are significant:

  • Far faster speeds β€” up to 5 Gbps and beyond
  • Lower latency β€” under 4–7 ms vs. 15–30 ms on cable
  • No peak-hour slowdowns β€” fiber isn't shared on a neighborhood loop like cable
  • More reliable β€” fiber cables don't corrode and resist electrical interference
  • Future-proof β€” fiber infrastructure handles far greater bandwidth than copper

FPUAnet delivers 100% fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) β€” the fiber runs directly to your house, not just to a neighborhood node.

Symmetrical speeds means your upload speed equals your download speed. A 1 Gig plan gives you 1,000 Mbps both down and up.

Cable providers are not symmetrical β€” Xfinity may advertise "1 Gbps download" but only provides 35–50 Mbps upload. This gap matters for:

  • Video calls & Zoom β€” upload speed determines how others see and hear you
  • Cloud backups & file uploads β€” files transfer at full speed in both directions
  • Gaming β€” low-latency upload is as critical as download
  • VPN / Remote desktop β€” symmetric traffic is required for reliable remote work
  • Content creators β€” live streaming and uploads require strong upload bandwidth

1 Gigabit = 1,000 Mbps. In everyday terms:

  • Download a full HD movie (~4 GB) in about 32 seconds
  • Download a 4K movie (~100 GB) in about 13 minutes
  • Stream 4K Ultra HD on 10+ devices simultaneously without buffering
  • Back up your phone's entire photo library to the cloud in seconds
  • Join a 4K Zoom call with zero degradation

No. Cable systems use a shared last-mile node β€” everyone in your neighborhood shares available bandwidth. When everyone is home streaming in the evening, everyone's speeds drop.

FPUAnet fiber runs dedicated fiber directly to your home. Your connection is not shared with neighbors, so peak-hour speeds are identical to off-peak speeds.

  • 100 Mbps: 5–10 devices with light-to-moderate use
  • 500 Mbps: 10–20 devices, including HD streaming on several screens
  • 1 Gig: 20–40+ devices: 4K streams, gaming consoles, smart home hubs, laptops β€” all at once
  • 2–5 Gig: No practical limit for a residential or small business environment
Your WiFi router's capability matters as much as your plan speed. Our included managed WiFi router is optimized for multiple simultaneous connections.

Installation

$0. Installation is completely free for all new FPUAnet customers β€” residential and business alike. No activation fees, no equipment charges, no trip fees. Confirmed on the FCC Broadband Facts label for every plan.

Yes. An adult (18 or older) must be present for the full duration of the appointment. The technician needs inside and outside access, and will walk you through how to use your service when complete.

Need to reschedule? Call (772) 468-1697.

A typical residential installation takes 2–4 hours, depending on your home's layout and whether aerial or underground fiber routing is required. Business installations may take longer. Our team will give you an estimated window when scheduling.

Yes. FPUAnet does not reuse existing phone, coax, or other wiring. Our technician runs new fiber cable from the street to your home, and inside to where your gateway/router will be placed. Our team is experienced at minimizing visible interior wiring.

Your installation includes:

  • Optical Network Terminal (ONT) β€” converts the fiber signal to ethernet; mounted on or near your home
  • Managed WiFi Router/Gateway β€” whole-home WiFi, included with no monthly rental fee

All equipment remains FPUAnet property and is provided at no charge as part of your service. Business customers may connect their own router to the ONT's ethernet port.

WiFi & Equipment

Yes, included. No rental fee, ever. Every FPUAnet plan includes a managed whole-home WiFi router at no extra charge. AT&T and Xfinity charge $10–$15/month extra for gateway equipment β€” FPUAnet does not.

  • WiFi mesh extenders β€” additional access points that extend coverage throughout your home; available for an added fee
  • Wired ethernet β€” for smart TVs, gaming consoles, and desktop PCs, a direct ethernet cable delivers full-speed, low-latency performance
  • Router placement β€” our installer will work with you to find the optimal location during setup
For smart TVs and gaming consoles, a wired ethernet connection is always better than WiFi β€” faster, more stable, lower latency.

Yes. Plug your own router into the ethernet port on the ONT. This is common for business customers with specific network requirements (VLANs, firewall appliances, etc.). FPUAnet support can assist with basic configuration but is not responsible for troubleshooting third-party equipment.

  • 1. Restart your router β€” unplug from power, wait 30 seconds, plug back in, wait 2 minutes.
  • 2. Test via ethernet β€” connect a laptop directly to the router with a cable and run a speed test at fast.com or speedtest.net.
  • 3. Use the 5 GHz band β€” connect to the 5 GHz network (faster, shorter range) rather than 2.4 GHz for nearby devices.
  • 4. Reduce simultaneous activity β€” multiple 4K streams or large downloads consume bandwidth on lower-tier plans.

  • By phone β€” call (772) 466-1600
  • In person β€” visit the FPUA utility office in Fort Pierce
  • By mail β€” send a check to FPUA's billing address

No. FPUAnet uses transparent, utility-grade pricing β€” not the bait-and-switch tactic common with national providers. The plan price shown is your ongoing monthly rate after the initial $2 promotional period ends. Any future pricing changes would be communicated to customers in advance.

Contact our local support team to upgrade:

Speed upgrades are provisioned remotely β€” no technician visit typically required. Changes reflect on your next billing cycle.

Yes β€” static IP addresses are available for business customers. You'll need a static IP if you host your own server, require VPN or remote desktop access, run POS or security camera systems, or operate VoIP or PBX systems requiring a fixed network address.

Contact our business team at (772) 468-1697 to discuss static IP options and pricing.

Support & Troubleshooting

Our local Fort Pierce support team is available 24/7 β€” including nights, weekends, and holidays:

You'll always reach a real person in Fort Pierce β€” not an overseas call center or automated chatbot.
  • 1. Restart your router β€” unplug from power, wait 30 seconds, plug back in, wait 2 minutes.
  • 2. Check the ONT lights β€” the box on or near the outside of your home should show a steady white "PON" indicator. A red, green, or blinking "LOS" light indicates a fiber signal issue.
  • 3. Check for area outages β€” call (772) 468-1696 to see if there's a known outage in your area.

If a restart doesn't resolve it, our 24/7 team can often diagnose and fix issues remotely, or dispatch a technician if needed.

For the most accurate result:

  • Connect via ethernet β€” plug directly into the router (not WiFi)
  • Close background apps β€” nothing else should be downloading or streaming
  • Run the test β€” visit fast.com or speedtest.net

Your result should closely match your plan speed. If it's significantly lower via ethernet, call (772) 468-1696.

WiFi speeds are always somewhat lower than your plan speed β€” this is normal. On WiFi, use the 5 GHz band for best performance near the router.

FPUAnet does not throttle, block, or prioritize internet traffic based on content, application, service, or device. Our network is managed to ensure a consistent quality experience for all customers, consistent with FCC open internet guidelines.
